Anti-imperialist Propaganda
An exhibition of anti-imperialist propaganda aimed firmly at North Korea’s enemies Japan and USA is always contentious. However, when viewed as an artistic representation of a specific brief then the works show the creativity behind such foreboding imagery.
The posters date from the 1960’s to present day but the message remains the same, remember your history, stay strong, defend the Fatherland at the cost of your life. The posters are oversized and are direct copies of works that have been printed and also hand painted on hoardings around the country. Posters of anti-imperialist art come and go as the political landscape changes. These works were commissioned by us in 2016 from the Paekho Art Studio and we manage to pay a commission to the artists directly.

“Let’s drive out American Imperialism and Unite the Fatherland” reads a poster at the Sinchon US War Atrocities Museum; Sinchon, South Hwanghae Province. Political slogans arewritten in red, and black arereserved for particularly detested words, in this case: “American Imperialism”.
