A poster from Japanese Street, Motel Drinks displays a pretty waitress in her Kimono at a motel serving saki. The red Japanese characters suggest that in this motel women will be available to drink with the men.
In other words, a place where all sorts of loose behaviour goes on behind closed doors.
Portrayals of the evil Japanese and their bawdy capitalist lifestyle are regular themes in North Korean films. None more so than in the film series ‘Nation and Destiny’.(See more on North Korean films).

Yakgodyo is a wonderful graphic imagery promoting skin creams. Simple and effective, the black thumbs up rises from the black border of the Korean characters.
The combination of Korean and Chinese characters is to show the sign from the pre-1945 era.

The close-up of the woman’s face, especially focusing on her hair. Coloured hair is a foreign decadence. It is possible to dye hair black or hints of brown but nothing as shocking as red..!
Her manicured eyebrows, and her perfect makeup.
What’s more, she is shown bare-shouldered, rather provocatively, which is a clear no-no in DPRK.
