North Korean Images at Utopia's Edge
The first ever North Korea’s linocut print exhibition in the United States.
The exhibition showcased in partnership with the Korea Society. The 24 images were all from the Koryo Archive, one of the world’s largest depositories of North Korean art and culture outside of the DPRK. The exhibition spanned three decades of North Korean artistry and offered Americans their first exposure to North Korean conceptions of daily life, work, family and the “Fatherland”.
Our story
Koryo Studio worked with the Korea Society to tour the exhibition around the United States for three years at their institute in New York and nationwide at various university galleries. Viewers enjoyed the curiosity of North Korean linocuts, and ultimately left with a more nuanced and indeed humanizing view of life in North Korea.
