Koryo Studio North Korean Art
We develop briefs that free the artists from the limitations of the North Korea art world and, as a collaboration with Koryo Studio, giving them more latitude to experiment. Due to these opportunities, local North Korean artists constantly seek us out and pitch their ideas.
In a system where copy work abounds, we make sure the commission process and artworks are fully recorded. Due to sensitivities in certain cases, not all information on the artist will be made available. Our aim is to produce a limited selection of artworks for collectors who want to be a part of North Korea’s contemporary art history.

A North Korean Art Journey
Koryo Studio is the first Western art gallery to specialize in DPRK art.
Our goal has always been to commission work, rather than simply buy from art studios. North Korean artists work to a brief set by Koryo Studio founder Nicholas Bonner. Therefore, this differs from the mundane and repetitive themed works their studios dictate.
Working With North Korean Artists
Collaborating with and commissioning pieces from the artists we work with frees them from the limitations and proscriptions of the North Korean art world. Moreover, it gives them more latitude to experiment. The recorded commission process gives provenance in a system where copy work abounds.
